Is there any school (preferably in NY) that accepts prior nursing credits (some or all of them) even if the candidate does not hold any type of nursing license already? I know LPNs have no trouble transferring nursing credits, but many schools for some reason do not allow nursing credits to transfer over and therefore make you start almost at the beginning if you leave one nursing school for another. Has anyone gone through this and found another BSN or ASN school that accepted any of the prior nursing credits (besides chemistry, etc)? Just wondering. I asked this before but I still couldn't find the answer...

The college that I attend allows you to test out of a nursing course if you have previous nursing credits.
Thanks for your reply. What school would that be?
The college that I will start in a few weeks is located in upstate NY, part of the SUNY network. Not sure if you were looking to transfer this fall but I know they will be having another challenge exam scheduled in two weeks. If successful, you can test out of Nursing 1 and 2 and start with Nursing 3. Then only two semesters to graduate (ADN program)! I can PM you with the name.

It all depends on how your old school's curriculum complares with the new school. Nursing 101 is generally the same across the board. After 101, it becomes very complicated. Some schools offer Peds in their second semester, some offer Ob. Some schools have integrated Nursing courses (Med surg mixed with a specialty), some offer individual courses (a seperate Peds, seperate Psych, etc).
Lets say you were in a school that had integrated courses, and you already took the course that had Peds in your second semester (with M/S), now you want to transfer to a school where the second semester was Ob mixed with M/S, how could you skip that semester?
Even if they run their courses in the same sequence, a school has the right to make you challenge out of the course (just as some do with LPNs). You may have to take an written exam, and you may have to perform skills testing.
