Has anyone seen UVA hospital's new commercials?

so, is UVA (or the charlottesville area) not hiring ABNs now? I would like to know in order to make my decision between getting a bachelors or an associates. associates is preferable to me if it is still OK in this area. thank you for the advice!

Have not seen the commercials, but I can tell you that UVA (and Martha Jefferson) for that matter strongly prefer to hire new grads that already have their BSN. A friend of mine graduated with his ADN last August and only recently started at UVA. In his orientation group, he was the only one without a BSN.

In fact, on my first day of class at PVCC for nursing school, the teacher asked how many of us already had jobs at either UVA or MJH and told us that it was recommended that anyone not already employed by a hospital, should get a job at one to better their chances of being hired upon graduation.

So yes, you can still get hired with just your ADN, but it is a lot harder than it used to be. Either way, if you do get hired you will be expected to enroll in a RN-BSN program immediately anyways. If you are in a position to get your BSN outright, you might as well. The days of getting your ADN and easily getting a hospital job and then having them foot the bill for the bachelor's are long gone. Of course, there are still people that do that, but I'm not taking the risk of not being able to find that first job and am getting my BSN at the same time as my ADN through a second bachelor's online program with ODU.
