I'm really squeemish about doing it as I'm a new nurse, but things are getting ridiculous. Most of the nurses have an issue with this tech, but no one wants to report her to the manager.
But I feel that if I don't say anything I am risking my patients. I know in school they teach us to delegate and be good managers but I don't have the time to babysit or argue with someone about whether she should be doing routine vital signs or helping me clean up a patient.
If I thought she was just busy with other patients I would cut her some slack but most of the time she disappears off the floor with another tech or finds an empty patient room to hide in. Techs are scarce on our unit but having one taking up space and doing little else is the same as not having one at all IMO.

you are in charge of the techs. Have a talk with her before you report her.
I think someone else all ready has reported her for an incident right after I started this thread. This has been ongoing months before I started working there. I was told she was one complaint away from being fired. If the possibility of getting fired doesn't motivate someone to do their job what will?
