Has anyone attended U of M flints online DNP program?

Published

Hello!

I am to start My DNP at the University of Michigan-Flint in the fall. It is all online. I was wondering if anyone is attending or has graduated from there and was happy about their decision of attending U of M online.

my concerns are that there are hardly any times where I am required to attend in class. I expressed concerns about how will students learn hands on skills before going into the work setting.

The advisor told me that most hands on stuff is learned through clinicals. Did anyone have difficulty diving into clinicals or the real world without having the ability to practice skills (like sutures or what not))??

Second, is I have had colleagues in graduate school who said they have had to postpone some semesters due to not being able to find precepters. They did not attend U of M though. I noticed that U of M flint does not help find any preceptors..again I asked them and they said it is a good idea to ask people ahead of time. Has anyone ran into trouble finding preceptors?? Or has anyone had to delay classes because they couldn't find a preceptor??

Sorry, long post..

just trying to find some comfort in my decision in choosing U of M flint online. I was hoping it was more of a hybrid, but doing more digging I was wrong.

Thank you!

I would look elsewhere. I am just finishing my last semester of the Msn program and it has been so disorganized and chaotic. no help in finding preceptors, no evaluation of clinical sites and outdated course materials. You get no hands on from the university except for a 1 day residency where they rush you through different stations with no real direction. It's really sad because with the name recognition I thought this would be a great program but it got worse as I progressed. It's essentially on par with many of the for profit online universities. I would look at Wayne or Madonna. I've heard mixed reviews on UD Mercy. MSU does a hybrid program that is well regarded and seems to have its stuff together. Complaints made to faculty and administration fell on deaf ears at UM flint. My last class had materials that haven't been updated in over 5 years. Not worth the $$ in my opinion.
