I am considering leaving the hospital, with 2 years experience, to take a position with hospice home health. Does anyone know if this move out of the hospital setting will make it difficult to go back if I want to in the future? thank you

in hospice you will use all your clinical skills, your people/communication skills, and your spiritual callings every visit. you will not be disappointed or get bored. you may find the biggest difference between acute care/hospital setting and palliative/hospice care in the patient’s home is that you are in their home and they have and want some control of the care they are getting. your days will not be boring, and the best planned day can change in 10 minutes. you will also find that working as a team (sw, chaplain, aide, operational support) is very productive and you can concentrate on nursing issues. relationships can be lasting, however the average length of stay is about 120 days (at our hospice), there is a lot of satisfaction in this type of care.
returning to acute care/hospital work…sure you can do that easy…but you not want to leave hospice.
