I was wondering if anyone has worked or is working at Harborview? And if so - any experience with their Trauma Surgery floor?

I'd love to know more about it if anyone has information!

Thank you!

I actually work on that floor right now! 7E :) Just as a nurse tech though, not an RN.

7E is going through a lot of transition right now because we have a new manager from the last few months who has never been a manager before and seems to still be getting her feet wet in those terms. Our problems on the floor are the same as most others: Short staffing and arguments over weekends and the like.

What I love about this floor is that most of the nurses are in their 20s or 30s so that they bring a good amount of energy to the floor. Just about every single nurse that we have is very compassionate and truly cares about the patients and making sure that they are getting everything done that is needed to be done or asking for help (and actually receiving it) when needed.

We have a lot of "newer" nurses, those who have

We used to have extreme problems with our scheduler but it's better now because we do self-scheduling. Other than that, our night shift medical assistance staff is nearly always short and that has been a problem for quite awhile which the management doesn't seem focused on solving. I was actually thinking about writing a letter to address these issues but I'm told that it won't be looked at comprehensively. In any case, I can't complain unless I've made a genuine effort to solve the problem or at least bring it to attention, so we'll see.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

babyRN-

I already asked this in another thread but found you again in my search, don't know how this site works very well so figured if I asked again you'd be more likely to see it.

What were your responsibilities on the trauma/surgery floor? And what skills would you recommend having as a beginner? I have an interview and am trying to prepare.

Thanks for any advice!
