Happy settings for nursing

Published

Ive been a hospital nurse for about 10 months now and Im very disenchanted by the negativity and general "meanness" of RNs and MDs. Are there better settings in terms of niceness? How about nursing homes? I guess Id just like a place where there arent so many burnt out RNs and MDs! Any ideas?

I've been really blessed to work in a hospital where a majority of the nurses and MD's are great to work with. They are caring, supportive, and just genuinely nice. However, there are a few floors in that same hospital, that I do my best to avoid, where there are the rare groups of those you described that tend to make the shift really difficult.

I'm only familiar with the hospitals in my area (not around the country), but it seems that the hospitals who have a definite mission in promoting a caring attitude, and holistic patient care attract/hire those who support the mission. Makes for a much nicer work environment.

I'm sorry for what you're having to deal with, but if you want to stay in the hospital, you'll just have to move around until you find that place of comfort. I don't think the nursing home environment is much more comfortable even though you don't have docs all day long. I don't think you'll find any area free from discomfort. I work in an office environment now and it's better, but some of the nurses have personal problems that spill over into the work place. I think the best environment is the home. If you could find a telecomuting job somewhere, I think you'd have the best of both worlds.

Hello, it's hard out there.. it sounds like the same type of "attitudes" that I am soooo tired of..I'm not working @ this time..after being in LTC as a nurse for almost 15 yrs..I'm so burnt out on the staffing attitudes..the pettie conflicts, that do not have anything to do with patient care etc..so at this time, I'm looking into other areas of nursing..scared yes, considering all of done is LTC..I was even a CNA prior to being a nurse for 5 yrs..good luck , hope you find that little networkmof nurses etc. that can also be trusting and enjoyable to work with..that's what I'd like to find..Rosiejo
