I graduated June 26, 2008, in a class of 18. On that day I applied for NCLEX, took first available slot to test, and received my license in about three weeks after the test.
I am the only student so far to do so, in fact, no other student has even applied to take the test. Perhaps my Respiratory Therapist background influenced this, but it is odd that since June 26 no other student has even sent in their paperwork to the Board of Nursing. The few that are in touch with me are afraid to take boards. Some fear the background investigation. Truth is, several have several assault and battery arrests, stolen property.......pity they were accepted, the 17k tuition buys an education, not a license. It is now 22K.
The RN program at GCC has just received the OK. More is not known by me, excluding price, I am told 30k is close. It will be an associates degree in nursing. Because I love:redbeathe that school, irregardless of the above and more, I will probably occupy a chair again. The DON is an angel, really an angel, I love her alot. I pretty much had a very good time at school, every single day. The nursing experience is very different than respiratory therapy. It is not science, it is not math, it is not micro or physics. It is gushy-feely and not scientific at all, as compared to respiratory education. I will be flamed, but I stand by that 100%.
My classmates would tell you it was completely math and science, and all nighter caliber at that. RN training is scarcely more technical, as my RN/RT buddies always complain about all the time. BUT, I always wanted to be a nurse, I just did. I am thrilled to now be a nurse and work as a nurse. The RN part was not part of the equation, but what the hell....
I won't be 55 for another month...

I'm currently a student at GCC. Just last week, they released their director and hired a new guy. Let me tell you, he does not play. They were all about floating everyone through the program no matter what you did. People came when they felt like it, came in late, talked on their phones....you name it. This guy is cleaning it all up. By the time we start up again next quarter (3 weeks), it'll all be different I bet. He's fired a few of the teachers who weren't worth a damn, too. Yesterday he said he doesn't care if 24 people start the class and only 10 are still in it at the end -- as long as they pass their boards. He's not going to mess around with any of the crap that's been going on. It's going to be a good change in my opinion. I would recommend the school.
So I heard. Would you mind sharing the start date for RN program? And would you mind PM me the teachers who were canned? My experience at GCC was severely hampered by instructors who were slightly stupid. It was a shame that in my class only I knew just how feeble minded they could be. I DID have two instructors worth my admire, and they knew it, too. Still do.
The start date for the RN program is in November of this year. Not sure the exact date though. As for the teachers who got fired, one of them just started this quarter (June 08). I don't know who the other was. I can tell you who's there.....Doc, Ms B, Ms O, Ms V, among a few others. Does this help at all?
