The Fifth Annual Faculty Development Institute: A National Institute for Nurse Educators, June 4 to 9, 2005. Co-sponsored by the National League for Nursing and Villanova University College of Nursing in PA

Early bird registration for the institute closes on May 6. NEW!! Audio/Web Series on Evaluating Educational Uses of the Web in Nursing: April 18, May 11, May 18, 2005

The National League for Nursing and the Teaching, Learning & Technology (TLT) Group will be co-sponsoring a series of three Audio/Web Seminars on Evaluating Educational Uses of the Web in Nursing (EEUWIN): Using Benchmarking to Improve Teaching and Learning. The Audio/Web Seminars will be held from 3:00-4:00 pm EDT and participants may register for a single event or for the entire series.

Session 1: Thursday, April 28, 2005, Helen Connors, PhD, RN, FAAN will present Applying the Benefits of Benchmarking to Teaching and Learning.

Session 2: Wednesday, May 11, 2005, Diane Billings, EdD, RN, FAAN will present The EEUWIN Benchmarking Model: What We Have Learned about Use of the Web in Nursing Education.

Session 3: Wednesday, May 18, 2005, Diane Skiba, PhD, PhD, FAAN will present How to use Benchmarking to Evaluate and Improve Teaching and Learning: Examples from the EEUWIN Benchmarking Project.

Workshop on Evidence-Based Teaching to Be Held in Texas

The NLN and the Academic Center for Evidence-Based Practice (ACE) are co-sponsoring a Pre-Conference Educator's Workshop titled, "Teaching Evidence-Based Practice and Evidence-Based Teaching" on July 6, 2005. The Educator's Workshop will kick-off this year's ACE Summer Institute on Evidence-Based Practice from July 7-9, 2005, in San Antonio. REGISTRATION IS OPEN for the Next Three Online Courses from Mather LifeWays

These online courses, developed to enhance nursing faculty capabilities for educating nursing students about health care of older adults, are available to NLN members at a discount. They will be offered online May 2 - June 24, 2005. The last day to register is Wednesday, April 27, 2005.

Environmental Context of Aging (FAC 102) provides an overview of how environmental factors may be assessed and modified to facilitate a model of capacity-building and capacity-maintenance for diverse groups of older adults.

Mental Health and Aging (FAC 103) focuses on understanding the normal and abnormal changes of aging on cognition and memory, psychiatric disorders in the elderly, the effects of loss, and substance misuse/abuse in older adults. Therapeutic modalities will be discussed.

Interdisciplinary Seminar on Aging (FAC 104) explores geriatric issues that cross multiple disciplines including pain management, geropharmacology, ethical issues, and health care service delivery. The clinical component of this class allows learners to participate in interdisciplinary care planning and care management of older adults in various health care settings, particularly those in underserved areas.
