grant writing and why do they need my maiden name

this is kind of a wierd post but maybe someone one out there know the answer to this, admin called me today needing my maiden name and current address, ( i live out of town during the week) i asked why they said that it was for grant purposes some one is writing a grant proposal for our corporation, i dont know if it has to do with the fact that we are a rural corporation and rely heavily on federal funds or what i just find this odd
