Grand Canyon University (GCU) - Is ABSN accepted in California?

Published

Hi! I was wondering if Grand Canyon University's ABSN program is accepted by the California Board of Nursing? I am taking online prerequisites for GCU now through study.com, but I'm seeing a few threads talking about how the California Board of Nursing only accepts in-person prerequisites. I'm now super worried as I've already made plans to move out of state to attend this program, but I really wanted to come back to California to work after receiving my degree and passing the NCLEX. I plan on calling the California Board of Nursing tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone had any advice? For reference, I was planning on attending the GCU's ABSN program in Arizona. Thanks in advance 🙂

The ABSN Program at GCU isn't avail for California - you should def talk to your advisor at GCU asap to see what you can do.

Hi, did you end up attending GCU? I am planning to attend their Vegas location in September this year. Many people from CA have gone and been approved by CA BON for licensure. There's a guy on YouTube who said he did it too, he made videos about the schedule, study tips, etc.

@SarenaBobena I did not end up attending, but here's what I know. The CA board told me multiple times that the GCU program did not fit the curriculum requirements. BUT, there are plenty of people who have graduated from GCU and went to be a nurse in CA. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a clear cut yes or no. I did not decide to go because the hours that GCU gives for clinical do not match up with CA requirements (at least 500, NOT including SIM labs). I did not want to risk that kind of money. But, if you're willing to work in NV for a year or so, you could always ask the CA board about license by endorsement. Good luck!
