Graduating (God willing) in June 2010 - Anyone else nervous about finding a job?

Hello fellow nursing school sufferers!

I am hopefully graduating in less than 6 months.. and I'm getting nervous about finding a job. Ideally, I would love to work in a PCU or ICU unit, but, I don't know if I can be that picky. I am finishing up a 2 year ADN program, with a 3.7 GPA. I plan on going right back for a BSN and then masters.

I don't know.. maybe it's just nerves or jitters... What do you folks think?

I think it is very scary! I am graduating in May and I, too, want to work ICU. I am in the process of looking for an internship in the ICU or ER. If you have made it to this last semester, you are going to be done in June... no hopefully!!

I'm right there with ya! My graduation date is set for May 7th. I also have a high gpa, and I'm nervous. I'm not about to be picky. I live in CO, and the job market is bleak. If I have to start in LTC for a year or so to get the experience, I will certainly do so. I am really interested in oncology or hospice. We'll see.. Good luck to you two!!

I guess I feel pretty lucky. I graduate from an ADN program May 2 and I already have two soft job offers lined up. I'm currently working as a nurse extern at a large hospital and their intent is to hire their externs since they're for all intents and purposes already oriented to the hospital and already half trained. The director of the floor I work on has already approached me about getting my resume to her in the next month or so.

I also had a floor director pull me aside during clinical rotation at the other large hospital across town. She said she had been observing me after some positive comments from some of RN co-signs I had on the floor and wanted to know if I was interested in working on the floor.

If I didn't have two very real possibilities already lined up I'd be starting to shake the trees already. It's never too early to start putting the feelers out. Start asking around, start asking nurses on your rotation, start asking unit directors where you're doing your rotations.

Good luck! We're almost there!
