I remember hearing a bit back that the government was working on a bill that would restrict ANYONE in the medical field to working NO MORE than 12 hour shifts with a required 8 hours between shifts. I remember this b/c when I was reading they did an interview with some doctor who voiced his openion that student doctors and nurses would basically go, 'Oh! my 12 hour shift is over!' and just drop whatever work they were doing at the moment. I thought it was a redicilous idea, as well as a way to tell who was going to be a good doctor/nurse and who really shouldn't be in the field (any good person would AT LEAST finish what they were doing first, IMHO).
So, anway, I never heard anything more about it. Has anyone else?

I heard something like this awhile ago, when the gov't was ending overtime for middle management(?)-but my understanding was that nurses were exempt for a variety of reasons, mainly due to the shortage. I think that MANDATORY overtime was ended-but I am kind of fuzzy on this as it was a while ago. But I think that your shifts are safe for now-I do three 12's.....
