Good shoes for fused ankle?

Published

Hello Nurses! I'm a student at the moment, but I've been thinking about all the things I will need someday, and shoes are on that list. I have a surgically fused ankle and shoes can be tricky things for me. Before going back to school, I owned a coffee house and was on my feet for 10-12 or more hours at a time daily. Long days cause my fused ankle to swell and hurt. I've tried plenty of types of shoes, and while some work, others (like Asics) leave me almost crippled. The most comfy shoes I've ever had (that were wonderful!) were my Crocs, but I see that many hospitals, etc., are banning their use. Sketcher's shape-ups work well (I guess because they almost have a rocker-sole), but I feel wobbly at times so I'm not sure those are a good idea.

I guess I'm asking for advice from folks who may have had ankle issues on a good shoe, maybe comfy like crocs, that won't leave me gimping and hobbling all day. And ideas?

Thanks!

Lots of facilities still let you wear Crocs and other clogs like them as long as they don't have the holes in them!
