can anyone recommend a new grad icu program. i have one more semester to go so i thought it would be a good idea to start looking around. some programs i know require a senior preceptorship or cna experience in a critical care unit. i was hoping to get placed on an icu for my senior preceptorship but it didn't happen. i am currently an ER tech in boston and have been for the past year which i am hoping will help me. i am looking for a micu or sicu that is eager to teach a new grad and offers a program no less than 6 mths long. i am willing to go anywhere for a good program.

Thanks all

Texas has some well respected programs. Try Parkland Hospital. They have a 6 mo program for new grads and it is a top notch trauma/burn facility. Also try Baylor.

Specializes in MICU, neuro, orthotrauma.

Boston. Massachusettes General Hospital. This is an incredible but very long read. Well worth it. made me so excited to go into ICU nursing. I am still waiting for my first six months at my new hospital to be up so I can transfer into SICU.

Are you at this hospital? Do you know if it's truly a good program, because it sounds amazing!

Specializes in ICU.

The following is an excellent article on the Parkland programs, applicant qualifications, and the application process. Check your school databases, I think I had to use interlibrary-loan. However, you get it will be worth it.
