Specialties Case Management

Hi everyone,

I applied to be a case manager for an insurance company and even though i don't have any experience in case management (my background is in medsurg) plus the fact that i haven't worked in awhile, i wasn't really hoping to get a callback but i did! First was a phone interview which i thought i did terribly but since they asked me to come in for a 2nd interview, i figured i must have done better than i thought during my phone interview or maybe they just want to see how cute i am in person, lol. Anyway, the 2nd interview is coming soon and i am at loss for how to prepare for it. Aside from the "usual" behavioral questions they ask, what do u think i should prepare for? The person in the first interview told me that the second interviewer will ask me more "technical" questions....what the heck is that?? Needless to say, i am nervous as can be and i don't want to go for my interview ill prepared. Any advice??

Hi, I'm in a similar situation now and I was wondering how your interview went. Also, did you take the job? If so, how are you liking it? I'm kind of nervous about the learning curve for the position. Any tips?

I am currently working as a Case Manager for an Insurance company. I don't think prior CM experience is critical to this type of role. Most new CMs start without anything but their direct patient care experience and they do well. That experience prepares you enough to handle this job. The best advice I can give you is to make sure you fully understand the position. Exactly what type of people you will case manage, who you will report to and your impression of the organization. You work with a computer and you need to be comfortable with that. They train you on how to manage your cases. Try to actually see where you physically will be working at the interview. That's my advice anyways. It's not for everyone but it can be rewarding. I now work from home and I love it.
