Call me crazy, but I dont get this! I feel like its right under my nose too!! Help please! TIA

Also if we need to split or cut a pill, do we do it or the CE? And no touching meds with bare hands right??

I think this is more for baby diapers if we are weighing them for I&O. Some scales weigh in grams and some in ounces. I meant to ask this last night, for babies in diapers are we always to weigh diapers or only if the Kardex assigns weigh diapers.

For water weight, 1ml = 1 gm or 0.034 oz.

If we have a 1/2 dose of a pill I would ask the CE what they prefer, maybe the unit has a pill splitter, or maybe they would prefer you break it, I dunno. But I know we may not touch meds with bare hands... however when you are opening packets to pour meds I don't know if we need gloves or not.

So for a blister pack for a pill-- pull backing off and plop it in a dose cup, hand to pt?

I am not sure. I think so. But like if you have to give a gel tab or something those little boogers bounce everywhere. I always wear gloves to give meds at work but I asked Sheri and she said if you keep doing things with gloves on it causes the pt emotional jeopardy bc you make them think they are dirty. I dunno, good question for EPN :-)

I am not sure what is the EC way but while I was doing clinicals in Brick/Mortar we had med pass exam where we do not glove for PO meds. We would remove backing and open into med cup without touching, then give to PT. And Sheri is right that's the same rationale my instructor gave us back then.

I would think it's unnecessary to use gloves for PO meds there's no contact with the:meds>cup>pt.

Thats the same way we did for nsg school. If you drop it, it went in the red sharps box or down the toilet. I need to ask where to put it on the epn-- and get clarification on the med/gloves issue. Thank you!
