Getting started???

Nursing Students General Students

Hi, I am currently in the Air Force and will be getting out in 2 years. I have decided that I would like to become a Labor and Delivery nurse when I get out. So that means I need to start going to school. Most of the programs I've read about require you to have a RN first the only thing is I haven't seen any programs to get a RN. How do you go about this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Jamie

First off, you can get your basic prereq's (like A&P, micro, english, communications, chemistry) pretty much at any college (community, university). But each nursing program has different specific prereq's for their programs. Some programs even include prereq's. So, it is probably best to search out the colleges that have nursing programs and get a list of their requirements to qualify for the nursing program. Also, most colleges offer either an ADN at the community level (associates in nursing, basic RN) or a BSN at the university level (bachelors in nursing). I personally have chosen to do an ADN program at my local community college. When I graduate, I will have attended school for almost 4 years getting my prereq's and going through the actual nursing program, and this is at full -time status in school. BSN programs usually run about 5 years, to my knowledge. Do a google search and you will find a plethora of info, I am sure. I want to work L&D when I graduate too :0). What a cool thing to watch a baby being born :0) Good luck to you...
