Hi! This is my first post here... I'm thinking of going back to school to become an R.N. I have 2 misdemeanour D.U.I.'s on my record. One from 1998 in california, and the other in 2005 in GA. Every single condition of probation, fines, communtiy service, fees has been met. I called GA board of nursing and they said they wouldn't know until I actually applied for licensure. Now, I really don't want to go to school for 2 years and then find out I am ineligible for an R.N. license! Also, assuming that Iam able to get licensure, what about potential employers? Will I be able to get a decent job in this field? Please let me know any experiences/comments.

two questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:
is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
what happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
these are questions that can not be answered by the membership of allnurses. the only reliable source of information is your state board of nursing.
