Getting my feet wet before jumping into real world. Advice, comments.

Hello:) Happy new year to you all.

I was wondering, I'm pretty set on my path of being a RN.

I'm currently 20yrs old, done with pre-requisites, applied to the accelerated nursing program at my school, community college, so i'll be graduating with RN AA degree, possibly 2015 summer. (and i'm going to find out if i'm in March, wish me luck :/ )

Then I'm going to be transferring to a school to finish my RN, BSN, so by 2016, I should be done with my degrees if I am capable of pushing myself and surviving the whole journey.

Yes, I have that all set, but I was wondering, what can I do while all this is going on. I don't want to be clueless as I enter the "real-world" sort to say, because all I've been doing is to attend school. Should I be volunteering at a hospital to get to know the grounds/ terms/ etc? To be completely honest, I'm kind of lost as in if I'm doing all this right to prepare myself.

If there are any recommendations/ advice/ warning, whatever it is, they would be very appreciated.

Thank you :)
