I just need to vent.

Specialties Geriatric

I work in LTC and have done so for four years. For the most part, it has been a great experience at my current facility. I work mostly on the ventilator unit and get a lot of different experiences since most of these people have IV antibiotics, IVF, various drains, g-tubes, catheters, etc. However, my issue is with these nurse to resident ratios. I usually have 20+ residents that I'm responsible for and I am finding that it is becoming more and more difficult to complete all the tasks that are expected of me. It feels like every day more and more is being piled on and it's just adding to my stresses. Throw in the fact that I have to act like a glorified servant when family members are around, CNA's interrupting me every 5 minutes during the med pass, resident's that will sit there and just stare at me until I get their prn pain/anxiety meds for them, resident's that will run to the DON and complain about every little thing I do, and you get one nurse that is ready to just throw in the stethoscope.

Don't get me wrong, I love taking care of people. However, I don't love being stretched to my limit just because a corporation wants to save a couple thousand dollars out of the millions they get every year and not get another nurse. Thanks for taking time to read this, I'm not expecting anyone to give me an answer or any advice, but feel free to. I just needed to get my frustrations out of my head and to someone that might understand.
