Greetings!
Hello everyone. I have started this thread because I would like to start getting ready for my path to Nursing. I live in the state of CT, and have heard about the GEPN program at Yale for RN. I know right now there are some people here in AllNurses that have applied and are waiting to hear back from Yale. Well, I am just starting on my journey, and would like to get some feedback about the entire application process. Also, see what others are doing to prepare for next year's round of application to be more competitive.
So far, what I know is that the requirements are 3 letters of recommendation and GRE scores. I haven't done any of those yet. Let me tell you a bit about myself before I continue on…
Background
I recently graduated from a 4 year institution to find out that my real passion is nursing. I graduated with a General Bachelor degree in Health and Society, mainly because I was not sure what I wanted to do. I was young, and overwhelmed by a huge college campus that I ended up running away off to one of my University's small branch campuses. My GPA is average, but I believe it needs more work to be competitive.
Now, I am preparing to take my EMT exam; I have passed the practical, all is left is the written exam. In the meantime, I am working at a European company as a customer sales representative in inside sales. At work, I get to interact with other customer sales representatives, buyers, regional sales manager, etc. As you can see my work leans more toward the business field.
Thread
This is my first thread on allnurses, and it is nerve wracking. What I would like to get out of this thread is advice, and information on your experience to GEPN. Whether you have been accepted or not, I could use all the advice I can get from someone pursuing a career in nursing. I have read from other threads that GEPN does not focus too much on grades or GRE but it's about how you present yourself to them. I am guessing this happens during the interview portion of the application, and this is something I would like some advice on. My interview experiences are not that great. Also, what are the essay questions like?
FYI
Well… I did an interview for one school, but I ended up not going to them even though I got accepted because the interview was depressing. By depressing, I mean that there were pauses, and I felt like I had no control at all. My latest interview happened when I was 17, after that I have not had interviews ever since. FYI I am 23 now.
Ending Note:
I am so nervous waiting to see who contributes :nailbiting:Please feel free to let me know about other programs similar to GEPN, and your experiences into those programs. Also, if you have a nursing advice, unrelated to GEPN feel free to post too. Thank you!
