What will happen to all the new grads in 2 years

What does the future hold for new grads who cannot find jobs even a year after graduating. Sure, the economy will turn around and hospitals may start hiring soon but most of them hire through residency programs and new grad programs anyway and the city is churning out new grads by the droves twice a year. Will we ever reach a situation where there are more jobs than new grads. There will definitely be a situation where there are more jobs than nurses and even if the hospitals agree to take on new grads , will they not prefer more recent new grads. So what is to happen to all new grads of 2009/10 who cannot find jobs !

I'm not really sure but my mom was a nurse who was born during the "baby boom" age. She is now 60 and retired a yr ago. Maybe in the next few years, Many nurses will be retiring making room for the new grads. Just a quick thought:twocents:

Residency is offered at better hospitals, while the rest claim 3 to 6 month orientations. The point is, they will have to commute and get trained at lessor facilities. This supports the idea of "getting your feet wet" at one place, and then leaving before they eat you alive, which is 6 to 12 months.

Some nurses might have to wait a few months for positions at places with high turnovers. The ones who research the facility have the upper hand in knowing when to apply.
