Is my GPA to low for Darton College Nursing Program

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello...I want to get into darton college nursing program in Albany, ga. My GPA is at a 2.7 right now. I still have Microbiology (I have to retake that), American government, U.S. History, and pharmacology to take. I just reapplied to the nursing program. All applications are due by September 15, 2010. The first time I took the HESI exam I made a 66% on it without studying. Does your Hesi score have to be really high to get in Darton college? What is the average score? I am retaking it on October 5th. Do anyone know the lowest hesi and GPA score darton has taken? I really want to get in this time around. And does anyone know what I can study for the HESi exam? Thanks!

Darton puts all the weight on the HESI (at least for the program I was trying, paramedic to RN bridge). I had a 3.7 GPA but only got 80% on the A&P side of the HESI. As I was told, they first segregate by the A&P score, then from those students, they dwindle it down by the overall HESI score, after the numbers get lower; this is when the GPA comes into play.

So I worked my behind off for a good GPA, but missed 5 questions on the A&P side of the HESI; so I was not accepted. :crying2:

Is that what the nursing office told you? They don't seem to like answering questions. :) Anyway, do you mind telling me about the HESI? Like how many questions total, how many on the A&P part?

Hi kirstierobinson,

You are correct, they are not very friendly and yes, that is what they told me as a reason for not being accepted. The HESI itself is wierd. You have the normal reading writting and math, but only about 20 questions on A&P and that is what they (Darton) count the most. The bad part is if you get the HESI study book for A&P, you might as well throw it away. The book had on 12 questions for the A&P and about a zillion for math and reading. If you are going to take the test, get the books you studied for your A&P classes and use those. The higher you score on the A&P section the better your chances are to get into Darton. Remember, they use A&P as a screening tool, if you don't make the grade they are looking for, to bad. Because they will not even look at any of your other accomplishments if you don't make their cut off.

GOOD LUCK!
