General Studies vs. ASN/ADN

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

This is my first post, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section. I have 7 more classes (2 semesters) to take before I receive my associate's degree. My question is, should I just finish the 7 classes and apply for the nursing program to receive my ASN/ADN or just go ahead and apply to the program? I'm currently attending a community college and had planned to transfer to a university to receive my BSN, but I was pointed in the wrong direction as far as classes when I started last semester and took prereq classes that weren't needed for the ADN program but will transfer for the BSN program at the uni.

*Sorry if this is confusing lol. Just need advice on which route to take now

To clarify, are you trying to get your ADN and then do an online RN to BSN program or are you wanting to get an associate's degree and then go to a 2-year BSN program?

Because if you just want to go for you ADN, how to proceed entirely depends on the requirements of the program. Some require you to have finished all prereqs before applying, and others require a certain amount to be completed. So, when you can apply will depend on their rules.

If you are wanting to go to a 2-year BSN, then you would want to finish your associate's degree (whether it ends up as an associate's in arts or science) and then apply to the BSN programs when you are able to, again based on the requirements and rules of each program.
