New to forum.Start nursing end of August

Published

Hello fellow nursing students (and soon to be)! I am 30 years old, married for 10 years, have 2 children ages 7 and 1. I am EXTREMELY anxious about starting the nursing program. I go to orientation on Aug 2 & 3. I have delved into any information I can get my hands on about what to expect the first semester. If anyone has any tidbits I'd sure appreciate them! I currently work in the O.R. as a surgical tech (henceST2ADN). Some people give encouragement others are so negative about how hard the program is. I am so happy to have found such a great site where everyone is in the same situation!Excited, anxious, nervous !!!!!

:) Thank You in advance for any advice!!

Welcome Raynee! I am also rather new here, and have become addicted to reading all the interesting posts! This is a great website!

I too, am starting an ADN program in the fall, and have had alternating periods of nervousness, and elation! With all the prereqs finally out of the way, I am more than happy to be moving on with the program.

This is a really exciting time, isn't it? I've been brushing up on basic math skills, because we were told in orientation that we would be tested and unable to use a calculator and cannot miss one problem or we fail. We have three chances to take the test, and after that, your outta the program! So I've been working on dimensional analysis and conversions and I'm getting ready.

Good luck to you!

Welcome all newcomers. I too will be starting the ADN program on Aug. 20, 2001 and I have orientation on Aug. 15, 2001. I am confused with my program since they are in the process of change the program. The program secretary sent out information letter with class to register for and books to buy. Well I called the school the secretary told me not to worry because they were in the process of changing and would send out the class schedule by orientation. I am worried that the program is going to have a rough start. I don't want to be left out of the loop and I have to hunt and peck to find the necessary supplies. Well I thought I would add my two cents.

Thanks,

Hello All,

The only advice I wish I had was to study A&P and major drug classifications before you start. You don't have to study them in depth now, just get familar with some of the major concepts from both of these areas.
