Ask yourself...
Where do you feel most comfortable, esp. during exploratory clinicals? where do you feel you shined or stumbled; and are you game to conquer your fears to get there--Even if it means a tough clinical instructor who ate you for breakfast & works where you wanna work; and who knows your every weakness?) But ultimately, where did you click in your pursuit of nursing? If not anywhere, then go back to step 1.. what made you choose nursing and why?? I thought I loved geriatrics which I still do... but 2 days into orientation & I got tossed 34 patients, meds/families, politics, drama and all..... and have jeopardized my license in first 3 months, so choose wisely but don't let fear grip you and deter you from what you know you are born and bred to do!! I had a gay BSN peer whose first Labor & Delivery clinical involved teaching a woman to nurse 2 twin newborns....imagine.. gay guy... teaching woman to breast feed while jealous husband brooded in background! Funny thing is.. he is now a rockin!! Postpartum & NICU nurse and the hubbies love him!!

Most of my instructors recomend a year on a med/surg unit to get a well-rounded back ground.
