Why I Love My Job

So to begin, here's a little background on my day going to work...

I was supposed to go to Wisconsin today for a party with family/friends that I only see a few times a year, however I was scheduled to work, so I wasn't super excited to be at the hospital in the first place...however, *work* happens..so what are you going to do..

I left a few minutes earlier today because I was treating myself to Starbucks, and lo and behold when I was nearly at the expressway, I realized that I had spilled my coffee all over my uniform:eek:...turn back, get stuck by a train, get to work late..arrghh...

Anyway, for what seemed like a really bad start to a day, keeping a positive attitude at work really helped in the long run. I had a sitter case for the second half of my shift, and the whole time my new 89 year old friend told me all about his experiences in WWII, his marriage, family, etc. As I was leaving to go home, he said "If I don't see you tomorrow, I wish you the best of luck. You were a lot of fun, and you made me forget all about my problems while you were here"

What a sweetheart:heartbeat

Let me emphasize, though, is that you are what made the difference!

You could have sat there with this lovely gentleman and had a nasty attitude the whole time and both of you would have been miserable. Instead, you chose to have a positive attitude and both of you enjoyed the time you spent together. He had a listening ear, and the opportunity to reflect on his life and experiences; you got a living history lesson and, as you put it yourself, a "new friend."

He's not the only sweetheart in this picture!!
