Hi I am a nurse from Malaysia. I am preparing a proposal to change the rank references for nurses here. We are still using the relic nomenclature of "Matron" and "Sister" to refer to our nursing ranks. I find it not very fitting for our male counterparts due to the feminine denotation of the words in the English dictionaries.
Males in nursing here are relatively new here; and over the years some of them have rose to the ranks of nurse managers and are currently referred to as "Matron A" and "Sister B".
To add to my paper, I would like to know how are nursing ranks referred to in nursing hierarchies of different countries.
Thanks.
