New job- non floor nursing

Nurses General Nursing

Hey guys, I am new to the website but really feeling lost on what to do job wise so I figured i'd give this a try!

I currently have a floor nursing job (first one) and have been on the same floor for 3 years total. I find myself dreading going into work and I cannot put my finger on why. I am at a loss as to if it is the hours (night shift) or the patients we care for on the floor. I am looking to try something new. I'm not sure where to even begin working so I guess I was just wondering if you guys had any suggestions on where to look or if you had any stories of your own to share. I have thought about a clinic job, leaning more towards normal hours with weekends and holidays off and also school nursing, something I've always been a little interested in. Also doctors offices and even an occupational nurse. Another issue I'm having taking a pay cut, especially with adding my night shift diff onto hospital pay. I know money shouldn't be a big part but it is to me as I'm the "bread winner" in the family. I'm open to any suggestions, if anyone has any input that would be great!

I almost wish I could go shadow different jobs, but i'm not sure how that works either!

Thanks!

This sounds like a personal, family issue. Can your family take the hit? Most can't as they get used to living at a certain standard. You will have to restructure financially. Just a few words for thought.

I recently had to restructure for a few months while transitioning to my current job. Now I make a little more. I had money saved to get me through. I also made it clear to the fam no new shoes!!! I have two people who love expensive shoes in my house. I can tell you I'm not one!! Ha!!

We made it though as I had the support of my family. My fiancé stepped up to the plate and did some extra things.

Will this help your sanity and family life? If it will, it might be worth it to you. It's a personal decision.
