How many times?

Just wondering how many times you are allowed to take your state boards? We have a person at work who they hired a while back who was going to be the new RN... pending passing boards.. well they created her a job(clerk) when she failed the 2nd time and 3rd times. She is heading into her 4th attempt, ( I am very glad I passed the first time right after school. Can't imagine the stress!) This person says alot of things and is even making threats on some nurses and stna's jobs because she say....

"she will be everyones boss some day!" She has chosen who she plans to fire,,, we really are not that nervous but it would be nice to know if there will ever be an end to her reign! Just curious?:D

Three times in my state...I think! Everyone I know has passed by the 2nd try though

LOL, if I hadn't passed after the first time, I don't think I could've handled the stress of having to take it again.:roll

I once worked with an LPN who had taken it 3 times. She was a very good nurse and very knowledgable. I guess she just didn't test well. When she went to take it again, she said if she didn't pass that time, she was giving up. Luckily, she passed that time. I don't know how many times you can take it or if it varies state by state, but I think you have to wait a certain amount of time before taking it again.

I think someone I work with has taken it five times and finally passed.

It depends on your state. In AZ you are allowed to take it as many times as you want (and are willing to pay for) until you pass. When I tested, the fee was over $450 - thank goodness I passed the first time because it would have been pretty hard to shell out all that money again.
