Hematophobia: fear of the sight of blood.

I can understand men having this phobia as they are not accustomed to seeing blood.

My question is this. How can women (who normally see blood 1 week per month) claim to be afraid of the sight of blood?

I have wondered about this for many years and hope someone can enlighten me.
