Funding fiasco for school,

New guy here. Hi all.

Does anyone have any practical tips in funding vehicles for school?

I just applied to one school and have 2 others in March. I'm confident about my chances getting in but it's the funding that is stressing me to no end right now.

I have higher education degrees (BS and an MS) from my previous life that disqualify me from receiving Pell Grants. I have trashed credit (due from a failed personal business) so no Sallie Mae from what I was told. The student loan limits for community college is $10500 max a year. I'm in SoCal and that is precisely rent for one calendar year (renting a room). So, how does everything else get covered?

I have been told and have read that many nursing schools strongly advise NOT to work to be successful. They don't want people failing so they have a vested interest in successful students and a high NCLEX pass rate. I am willing to work but don't want to spread myself thin.

My prereqs were pretty brutal to do well in so it's put much apprehension in me about how the heck I'm going to financial foot this mission.

Any constructive perspective and insight is gratefully appreciated.

I've heard of some people getting funding through the NURSE Corps scholarship: NURSE Corps Scholarship Program | Bureau of Health Workforce

However, it's pretty competitive, and you agree to work in a critically short facility for so much time to "repay" back the money.

Otherwise, taking a semester or so off to work as much as you can and gain some savings might be the best option. There's not much funding out there for students getting a second degree that I've found, and the only major scholarships/grants I saw are for students who live in areas that are short on nurses or that have a low rate of education in the workforce.

Working some during school is possible from what I've seen from others. It might be more difficult, but it can be doable.

Thanks for the insight. I saw some talking about the nurse Corp thing on Youtube. I don't have any issue working in a under-represented area at least I'd have work. Thx again.

I have been working non-stop and plan on doing so until I start a program.I am hoping to save up every penny to last me through the first year.You can always pick up a job during the summer since there are no classes. If you absolutely have to work I would do part-time and look into jobs with tips. GL
