So, I filled out my graduation application thingy, and I finally got my transcript evaluation back and it brought me up short. Apparently I'm missing some things I didn't think I was missing.
I am so frustrated with the way these programs switch things around on you and you're the last to find out. I lost an elective when they decided to give Statistics its own classification, for starters. Also, whereas before you had the option of taking 1 of 3 choices of English/Writing credits, NOW they say you have to have all 3 classes.... I have 2 of them. AAAAAAAAAAAAAND I lack a "Globalism and Diversity" class apparently. And I have yet to figure out just exactly *** I would have to take to satisfy that requirement.
To add insult to injury, when I got off work and my daughter got home from school, I went down to Highline to see if I could chat up an advisor and figure out where it is I stand, exactly and figure out what to do, and am greeted by a sign at the advising desk saying that they aren't doing drop ins anymore today (high volume of students, I guess) please come back tomorrow. So I essentially sat through rush hour traffic and drove for half an hour to basically turn right around and do it again going home. *grinds teeth*
Now I could be completely screwed up and wrong about this, as I've been out of the school game for quite a while before embarking on this journey, but I thought that once you declared a major, you had a degree track and you followed it, and any changes to the program pertained to people coming in the year the changes were effective? (I am not entirely sure about that one, but I have it in my head that way all the same).
I have been working away at this, since 2006. I've had to take the classes one at a time by necessity, both because of time constraints (working full time and running my household), and also because many of the classes are pre requisites for each other (all the biology classes). It just never ends, it seems. I thought I saw the light at the end of the tunnel, but that might end up being an optical illusion.
I will have to wait until I talk to an advisor before I completely lose my mind and temper, but if I do end up having to make up these other classes, I'm going to have to increase my courseload, or failing that, put off applying to nursing school another year!! I REALLLLY don't want to do the latter, but I don't know if I can afford to do the former, or if I can spare the time. I have had a hard enough time carrying the one class per quarter course load, trying to find the time to go to class, work, study and not completely ignore my family. I am a bit scared about adding additional classes to the mix, and what could happen to my GPA if I try it. I definitely don't want to add the courses while I'm taking the chemistry classes (which will be winter and spring quarters). I may have to tack everything on to the summer quarter. ugh!
I know that if I have to do it, I will do it. I will do whatever I can to make it work. I wish I could quit my job and just take a quarter of full time classes and push through, but we can't afford to lose my income right now, and to be honest we're still trying to figure out how that's going to work when I do start nursing school.
I just really don't want to wait ANOTHER freaking year to apply to nursing school. I'm not getting any younger here.
This whole, two steps forward, three steps back crap is really annoying.
Sorry for the whine/rant.
Please feel free to vent here if you have anything bugging you, too! We can all commiserate here. Suggestions/advice also welcome.

That is exactly how our community college does it. Once you declare a major, you are locked into those prereq's and only those even if they change. I hope this was just someone's mistake and they can fix it for you. I know the feeling of feeling like I've been at my pre-req's forever! Good Luck

Yep that's how it is in a lot of majors but nursing is a different animal. They do shift goal posts a lot. You'll notice that admissions checklists tend to change yearly and sometimes even within the year. As pre-nursing students it's our job to stay on our toes about this stuff. :) Also keep in mind though that in most nursing schools you don't declare a nursing major - you have to apply and be admitted to the major. That's why the rules may be a little different.
But no worries - if you can't meet your present school's requirements any time soon then you might want to consider other nursing programs in your area. Different schools have different requirements and with a little digging (internet research) you can probably find a program that you qualify to apply to now or sometime in the near future.
