Hey y'allQuick question for the new or experienced nurses on here. Last week I landed myself a job at a auto parts store (Think major chain like Autozone) After a certain period of time, I can get two certifications at least; 1. ASE certified parts specialist2. DuraLast certified starter and alternator specialist (in house)I also get to learn testing ignition control modules. Which to me is a Godsendthe latter is pretty cool. But the first? I can go damn near anywhere with that. Dealer, other parts stores, etc...I already plan on going back for my ASE master mechanic, and diesel courses after the nursing stuff is done. In the meantime, is there anyway, during nursing school I could land myself a job at a hospital and have some school costs off loaded for me? Like what the parts store is doing for me? I know it's a shot in the dark, but I figured I'd ask. Or a place that'd help you get your CCRN, APN, etc? Thanks in advance!

Sep 23, 2018 In answer to your question - yes, it may be possible to obtain *some* financial assistance for nursing school from a healthcare employer - however, usually this assistance is limited and it may require working full-time or near full-time in order to qualify, which can make life difficult in nursing school as many programs recommend cutting back on work hours, as nursing school tends to be a full-time job equivalent in terms of commitment. However - what is your end goal? Nursing and automotive repair are two pretty different career pathways - which one do you actually want to do?

However - what is your end goal? Nursing and automotive repair are two pretty different career pathways - which one do you actually want to do?Nursing comes first for me. I do not see myself working on other people's cars, day in and day out, until I die. I do it for myself. Nursing on the other hand runs in my families blood. And myself. Helping those in need I can see myself doing, proudly until my last breath. I am, however, a broke man with 4 cars, a motorcycle, quad and trailer. The trailer and 1 vehicle are reliable. The rest I bought used or inherited and need work. I do that work as I really can't be paying someone $500 for labor, when I can get the part for $10 to $300and get down to it. I self taught myself when the difference beteeen "I gotta get to work" and the unemployment line was one stupid misfire, from a torn boot in cylinder 3. Then came to enjoy the savings of doing my own work. Nursing or not, I will always DIY my work, and maybe one day build one of my two dream vehicles;1. A 6.7 Powerstroke (diesel)2. Or a LQ4 Yukon XL Denali (gas, but $5,000 gets you 600+ horsepower)
