Anybody out there that can tell me what Foundations of Nursing is all about I have to take it in a couple of week. and what to expect at clinicals too.:uhoh3:

Hey Javon! How r ya?? Well, to answer your question, foundations of nursing is pretty much the "backbone" of nursing. It invovles knowing how to critically think and why you are doing what you are doing for the pt. Hey, do you have a Foundations of Nursing textbook? if you don't, I suggest purchasing one... Also, foundations of nursing involves the legal and ethical aspects of nursing, such as what is in your scope of practice, pt's Bill of Rights, handling ethical issues (such as abortion, pt-assisted suicide), knowing the proper way to document, learning the nursing process, knowing the meds to give and why you are giving them and what side effects/adverse effects to expect, knowing how to implement pt safety, promoting education to the pt about their illness and treatment/prevention (such as if a pt has hypertension, you would educate them to lower their sodium intake), knowing the signs and symptoms of dieases processes and how to recongize them and what do do about them and that is all I can think of for now.

As for clinicals, expect it it a little rough on the 1st day. More than likely you will just have orientation. Make sure you wear proper unifrom and bring your equiptment with you, such as your stethoscope, penlight, B/P cuff, and a second hand watch. Also, don't do ANYTHING that you are not trained to do, take notes and emulate the good nurses. Also make sure not to ask too many questions to the nurses; that is what your instructor is for. also, I know you are going to be nervous, just expect that. It's okay to be nervous, especially if you're doing a procedure for the first time. Also, make sure that your insructor is present at all times when you do a procedure. Well, I hope this helps ya and let me know what it goes. take care. Good luck. :twocents::heartbeat:yeah::):typing:nurse::nurse::nurse:
