I am hoping that some of you fellow nurses can give me some suggestions. I graduated nursing school (diploma) in the early 90's and worked in OB nursing once I got out of school. Once I had kids of my own, I stopped working all together. When I rejoined the work force, I didn't want to go back to the hospital setting so I started working in the Pharmaceutical Industry in Data Management. I have been working as a Data Manager for about 7 years and I am really desperate to change careers. Any suggestions for a job change? I would like to use my medical background, but I don't want to return to bedside nursing. Ideally, I would like to use my obstetrical background, and wouldn't mind working in the hospital setting, but I just don't want to return to doing bedside. What other options are out there ? How about Case Management, etc? Any suggestions or information you could give me would be appreciated.
The other thing is- I let my nursing license expire. What is required to get it reinstated? Do I have to do a clinical component, and if so- can it be in my former specialty area (as I never worked anywhere but OB)?
Thanks in advance.

The case management positions I have seen lately all want you to be certified which requires you to have recent experience over about 3 years. Others may not be as stringent. For those of us who have been away for a bit--we are at a severe disadvantage because of the movement for more initials and certifications. You may need to go back into practice for a bit then apply for certification or maybe the employer can help you get there once you get your foot in. Good luck!
