Foreign nurses are taking/replacing nurses here in the USA?

as silverdragon says there is retrogression in place which means that the american government is giving out very few visas for anybody to emigrate here, including nurses. because of the economy, there is a hiring freeze where i am and many new grad us nurses cannot get a job, so there wont be any vacancies for foreigners even if they were given visas, the only point of view i have is that i speak english,,,better than some americans, i did not take anyone else's job when i came here in 2004---no-one else wanted it, and i spend all my hard earned money in america, i do not send it back home to train another family member to be a nurse so that they can apply to come here as well. some economys in the rest of the world are being kept boyant by all the money that is being earned in america by some foreign nurses who send their earnings back home,

USC? IDK. Lost me. I think they could just fix the parking issue and be done with it all. Its really a nice hospital. They would have staff if the staff could park.

I think that the idea that some huge influx of foreign nurses are stealing jobs away from Americans has already been very well debunked. However I would like to address the idea that foreign nurses are somehow responsible for low wages and poor working conditions as if nursing were some highly paid, highly respected nirvana for all the decades that it was dominated by white females. Do you really believe that if no foreign nurses were allowed to work that the profession of nursing would be miraculously transformed since theoretically employers would have no choice? Um, no. NO.

Foreign-born nurses or no, there has been a major nursing shortage for years now and yet we have failed to capitalize on this and turned it into our advantage. Wages have remained stagnant, physicians run amok and "customers" are as rude and demanding as ever. Yet we continue to allow ourselves to be distracted and divided focusing on issues which really do not matter such as foreign born nurses. We still after all these years cannot agree on an entry level degree for practicing nurses or advanced practice. Most of these problems are related to the fact that nurses are not independent practitioners, we cannot bill for our services and the overwhelming majority of us work in the employer-employee model. As long as that is the case, we will continue to be at the mercy of others for our pay and working conditions.

I rarely post here but read the forums often. I have been fascinated by this topic way before now but i will start to post some of my opinion here. History has a way of repeating itself doesnt it? Whos to say that 30 years from now, US citizens will try to go elsewhere for a better life, job, oppurtunity, etc. That is exactly what other nationals are doing now rather its nursing or any other field. If they follow the laws set forth by YOUR government, then there really isnt an influx of anyone stealing YOUR job now is there?

Also, we really have done this to ourselves. Weve done 2 main things: 1) enjoyed the good life. Everyone has a cellphone that makes pancakes, everyone has a new car every 3 years, everyone has a wonderful home, and over half the population is obese. While doing all of this we 2) remained oblivious to the man behind the curtain pulling all of this over on you not knowing/caring how it happened as long as everything stayed kosher in your SUV as you parked it in your suburban home......

Well the economy ***** the bed..... the world is in economic crisis and the man behind the curtain is definetly at work. If i am in china, india, the phillipines, ANYWHERE else virtually other than America, im looking in saying wait........ they make FORTY DOLLARS an hour??? They have Unions??? They get to wear hot pink baby phat scrubs??? I CAN DO THIS??? AWESOME!!!!!! This along with an entrepreneur (spelling) sitting in a board room realizes that if he helps them in with all the paperwork and legalities that there might be a nice finders fee attached.

Im trying to not turn this into a rant/rave but the main points in trying to get across is this..... you are getting INSOURCED basically. Instead of the dell computer factory getting shipped to india, the indian citizens are getting shipped here, making 23 dollars an hour, and Michael Dell pocket the other 17 dollars per hour with his new company that handles getting them into america. How did this happen? A number of factors. Some of them are our fault. Others is just plain greed of america, the hospital, and a select few that make desicions on how you provide care.

I can't believe somebody stated that I should have my Green Card revoked! I've been here for 5 years, have bought a house, have a family, a life.....who are you to say I have to give all that up? What do you suggest? Rip me away from my American partner, lose my house and everything I've worked for so you can take MY job? It was a different story 5 years ago when we were being begged to come over here and help you guys out because nobody wanted to do this job! Now all of a sudden there's a financial crisis and everyone wants to be a nurse because its the only job with some kind of security. I've earned my position in this society and I'm staying. You're talking about people's lives here!

I didn't find the post where someone stated that anyone's Green Card should be revoked. That is ridiculous. Green Card is permanent resident .

As others have pointed out due to retrogression very few foreign trained nurses have come to the USA the past few years. What I have an issue is bring more IENs in while US or green card nurses don't have a job. IENs are not the solution to the nursing shortage.

I don't know where you come from but unless you are in a union, you could loose your job just like that. It doesn't matter if you worked a job no one what 5 years ago. Many nurses where laid off in the 1980 and 1990 s and it didn't matter how well you did you job or how undesirable it was in the past.

Its a big world and USA is a huge country. It has always been a land of immigrants if you read your American History. Lighten up folks--foreign nurses come in the US legally and have gone through the screening process and some take years to do so. Are they taking over the jobs?...well, they wouldn't be hired in the first place if there weren't any shortages or vacancies. Rest assured there is a 2 month job posting in the local area PRIOR TO HIRING a foreign nurse for every position. And they don't come cheap--fees have to be paid to agencies, lawyers, immigration authorities--hiring locally would be cheaper and more convenient for hospitals but there's just not enough nurses.

YES, this is my idea exactly. Foreign nurses are NOT always hired due to a shortage.

. majority of nurse come over on a green card so the employer has to pay the same as a usc/resident and it is checked that they are doing so.

how do these nurses get their green card? do they have relatives who lives in us?

it seems like every places i work, there seems to be always foreign nurses working there. why do you think these nurses come to us? i'm sure its because they can earn money by working in the us as a nurses then their own country. i think those positions should be filled with graduate nurses or us nurses first then consider foreign nurses. not only foreign nurses are filling nursing jobs but they also network with each other. they tell their friend where they are working and talk to their managers and by giving them a good reference they are being hired immediately.
