Foreign BSN graduate for Temporary CNA?

Published

So, after I graduated from nursing school in the Philippines in 2016, I returned home to California after submitting my requirements to BON. Somewhere along the line, many months later, I realized I had not heard from them and inquired. Turned out, my requirements were not received and had to re-submit everything! Needless to say, I was incredibly frustrated knowing that California does have quite the wait period.

Anyway, instead of simply standing by doing nothing, I figured I could get CNA certification in the meantime and work as a CNA to gain experience and begin to save money while waiting for my approval for and passing of the NCLEX. I WOULD rather take the NCLEX right away, but I am not hopeful in hearing from the BON any time soon.

My question is, holding a BSN, are there any other foreign graduates (or even local graduates) that has attempted/thought of/done this and what you had to do. Is it necessary to go through the CNA training or can you simply apply to take the examination?

I really don't know what to do. Advice would be great. Thank you.
