I have a skills check off tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone could help me with documenting the procedure. I know what I am thinking, just have a hard time putting it down on paper, which is rare, because I love to write.
We also have to check off on urine speciman and removel of the cath.
Thanks

hmm...are you just needing like a step-by-step outline? We have skill check-offs next week to. We don't have to write anything though. Let me know, and I think I can help you out.

Theyll probably mark you on things like the rationale for insertion of a u/c. Explanation to patients(more than likely a mannequin! But still). Setting up your trolley what you need to have. Hand washing. Setting up your sterile field. Cleaning the area. Chacking the balloon on the tip. Insertion of the foley. Attaching the bag. The foley is sterile so you can take urine sample from the bag into a sterile container and do ward analysis. OR o a CSU if thats what theyre looking for. Put catheter bag on a stand and keep the end of it off the floor.
Removal, set up, explain, drain, document and make sure patient passes urine as a u/c can push them into retention.
Passed, thanks
