FNP to CNM

Hello All. I have been reading a lot of great discussions addressing the issue of whether or not L&D experience is a necesity prior to CNM training. I wonder if any of you have insight into the best work experience an FNP could have prior CNM training. I have been practicing in a community health and now a college health setting for the past 2 and 1/2 years and am really looking to apply to CNM programs w/i the next 5 years, but I fear I have gotten myself too far away from the background necesary for this career move. I wonder if I should just take a paycut and pursue L&D RN work. Any thoughts?

Also, does anyone have any info, personal or otherwise, on the distance program w/ the Institute of Midwifery and Women's Health in Philadelphia? I understand they have an accelerated program for nurse practitioners.

Thanks so much!

I had a great midwife who got her MSN/CNM after 10 years of staff nurse experience in an adult inpatient rehab unit! Just a thought.
