Flex time vs school nursing

Published

Hi! I currently work with the MR/DD population. I work 24 hrs per week at one job and 7 per week at the other. I am able to do this in 3 days per week. I work with high functioning adults who have jobs, etc. I do home visits to ensure they have meds and are up to date with appts. Basically a glorified medical secretary. No skills used in a looong time (10years) I make my own schedule so I don't work holidays, weekends or snowstorms. I also have free time between visits to run errands. The downside is I am on call for both jobs. I don't have to go anywhere when called just give directives over the phone. I get called maybe 5x per week on average. some weeks are no calls. I have a 401k with this job but no additional pension. I recently interviewed for an RN position that would be civil service, so it has a pension after 10 years. I would be a school nurse for MR/DD clients, some profound. It is 5 days per week but school calendar. I would not be assigned to a specific school and may have to travel farther than my current job on some days. It is a 6 hr day and the pay is 6k less than my 2 current jobs combined. Unsure what to do. Anyone work in this field (school for mr/dd) do you like it? What is typical day like?
