First ltc interview

Hello I am a new lpn. I recently passed my nclex and received my license ! I was contacted by a HR lady from a long term care facility asking me to fill out the application on their website. I got a call to set up and interview! I am super nervous since this will be my first nursing interview. Can any body give me any pointers about what kind of questions they might ask me ? I have read reviews on the company and it seems like a great place to work so I am super excited.

Congratulations on being newly licensed!

The majority of interviews I've gone on have all included a quick rundown of previous employment and then they throw scenarios at me to see how I would respond.

Example:

"You come on shift and see a patient you are familiar with who has dementia, but no other medical issues at this time. She is being very aggressive, has slurred speech, and is being physically violent to staff. What do you do?"

The thing with this type of scenario is, they're trying to test your ability to triage the situation. Do you deal with the aggression first, or realize that there is something seriously wrong with this patient who is exhibiting slurred speech with no known medical issues aside from Dementia?

Long term care is a great area. I see a lot of people slam LTC, but it's where I've been the happiest. As such, they need to make sure that you've got a good grasp on common sense and have good critical thinking skills. We don't know everything, but if you've got the right tools, then they know you will be a strong nurse for them.

Good luck!
