Hi Ive been lurking here reading alot on this website and decided to ask a few questions. I currently work as an EMT in So Cal but i'm looking into going into nursing and had a few questions.
1. I'm looking for a program thats private with included pre reqs so I dont have to play games at a CC and finding out later they dont accept that certain schools. Ive seen WCU in ontario but for 130k or so that is pretty pricey and was wondering if there was anything similar out of state that is lower cost or even in california. it can be a ADN or BSN program.
2. Also how is the job market for a Male RN working in the ER. Thats where I would like to work and eventually work on a CCT ambulance.
Thanks for your replies in advance sorry if this is the wrong place to post this

Hi Deuceswild1, welcome.
Why out of state?
Regardless of gender, yes, nurses are needed in the ER.

If you're planning to apply for licensure in CA, check the BRN website for a current list of approved, in-state programs. Most have links to the school websites, NCLEX pass rates, etc. Here's the link:

Paying 130k for any nursing degree is ridiculous, in my opinion. The market for new nurses isn't great right now to begin with, and you will be paying that loan off for YEARS on an RN's salary.
There are quite a few out-of state, public, accredited, "real" universities that are now offering nursing degrees online regardless of where you live. I haven't researched these programs too much myself, but that might be worth looking into. Because they are public schools, they have pretty reasonable tuition. I believe you would still need to have your pre-req's done, however.
If you do decide to go the private route, you can still take a lot of the pre-req's at a community college -- I've never heard of any school (private or public) that doesn't accept units from a public community college, as they are all accredited. I actually looked into WCU at one point and was told that completing pre-req's at a CC would shave off a large portion of their tuition.
I don't know where you live in SoCal, but Goldenwest College in Huntington Beach was where I did all of my science pre-req's. Compared to other community colleges in the area, they offered more science classes and had more spots available. They even have a policy in the physiology department that if you petition one semester and don't get in, you get first priority when you repetition the next semester.
