Fetal Heart Monitoring training

Hi all,

I am pursuing a career in nursing and I want to specialize in L&D. (I am slated to begin nursing school Aug '06) My question is...do you learn about interpreting FHM's in nursing school or do you go to an outside class specifically for FHM training? If so, who usually offers these types of classes? I have tried to search online for where you can get that type of training but I am coming up empty.

Thanks!

I can't tell you what you may or may not learn about EFM in school - too much depends on your school - but I can tell you that AWHONN (Assoc of women's health, obstetric, and neonatal nurses) has a very stringent and specific certification process for EFM training. There are other courses out there also, but I would suggest joining your professional organization and utilizing their training when you graduate.

Good luck.
