I was wondering if anyone has received any of the HRSA scholarships or loan repayments for the whole commitment to work for under served hospital after graduating? I don't think I can qualify for the scholarship based on my "estimated family contribution" which is calculated when you file FAFSA. I was just curious as to how hard it is to get the loan repayment or scholarships? I start crna school in October. Any other thoughts on how to afford school without racking up massive debt...I understand this may be the only option but I am interested to hear others resourcefulness!
thanks!

I used to work as an Anesthesia Tech while in nursing school. I told one of the CRNA's about this loan repayment program and she actually applied and got it. We were working at a level 1 trauma hospital at the time. Her student loan debt was 6-figures. Keep in mind that this was about 5 years ago and I think first priority now goes to NP's. I would still apply for it though. I know I am! Good luck!
thanks for the incite! It seems to be getting a bit harder for crna's to get loan repayments or scholarships these days!

denver I have about been making myself sick looking at gvmt grants and scholarships, the air force reserve, and the dizzying amount of scholarships out there. So many exclude grad school, or are for STEM majors only, etc etc. I have found a few, but it isn't much. Wish I could do reserves, but I think that my medical problems will exclude me.
anything you find would be awesome!
I have been on the HRSA site to look up different hosp that are 'critical access' to get jobs at in the future!

yeah, I have been talking to hrsa for the last month...their reps are some confused on their information it's crazy. They told me crna's were eligible for the NHCS scholarship but come to find out crna's are not eligible per their manager. Also, crna's are in the second tier for the nurse corps scholarship so def won't be getting that one. will just have to cross my fingers for the loan repayment program and getting into a critical access hospital :)
How much does the reserves help out for school??
you get about 2 grand a month stipend. You can take the hplr at the end of your schooling, I think it is 50 grand, but they tack on extra time. I really have always wanted to serve, but think I will be medically disqualified. The money is not tax free by the way, so you have to pay taxes on it when you get out of school, but still...
yes, primary care gets all the money nowadays, they haven't seem to catch up to how 'cost effective' we are, esp in rural populations...
