Failed a class - should I appeal??

ok so here is my dilemma - After reviewing the grading policy (below) states that any core classes that are rewarded a "D" is considered as failing and require retake:

A = 90-100%

B = 80-89%

C = 70-79%

D = 60-69%

F = 59% or below

I took Reproductive Health with EC online and received a 69.28%!! I called the school and was advised that I have to re-take the entire course because i am .72% short from a "C" which is passing. I think its ridiculous, I can't afford to pay another $1500.00 (approx.) for the course, the instructor is not responding to any of my emails (i guess because class is over) and I don't want to cause problems for myself if I appeal (retaliation) - anyone have any advise?

thanks

It's not ridiculous. At my school, I was informed in advance that anything below a 78% in a nursing class would result in failing. So 77.9% is failing. Those are the rules. (Your teacher, by the way, did not make those rules.)

Also, if you received a D in the class, there is clearly something you aren't understanding.

You failed the class per the written policy. I don't see where you have any grounds for an appeal.

If you received 70% for ANY class, it means that you do not get 30% of information. In other words, you do not know a good third of what you are supposed to know.

Would you like to receive care from someone who doesn't know that much? Get over it and retake class, that's life.

Yeah. Re-take the class and don't fail it this time. It's the only thing you can do or should do. Good luck.

On what grounds would you appeal? That D was the grade you actually made. Unless there was some unfairness involved or some extenuating circumstance that might justify some sort of additional chance to make some extra points -- you have no grounds for an appeal. You didn't learn the material. You need to learn it before you can get credit for it.

On what grounds do you think you would get this appeal? Because from what you just stated, you don't have anything. You failed the class. It doesn't matter if it was by .1 point or .99 points, you failed. So unless you have more information than you are sharing with us, your appeal won't get you anywhere.

Can you take the challenge exam instead of the class? You have no grounds for appeal. You could not have been a high A student all along if your final grade was a D

Your title line says it all. YOU FAILED A CLASS. By your own admission and fault. Learn from it, suck it up and retake it.

On what grounds would you appeal? You must earn a 70% to pass the course. You did not. Therefore, you fail. There is nothing to appeal.

You failed a class, pure and simple. I know you don't want to hear this, but you're most likely not going to be able to negotiate your way out of it.

The instructor isn't returning your emails and messages because, frankly, you are one of many and s/he undoubtedly has other things that are more pressing at the moment.

Sorry, sweetie, but this isn't a park district softball tournament where everyone gets a trophy just for showing up. This is real life, and not everyone cares how special you are.

Ouch! Thanks for being kind with your words. Glad I wasn't the OP having to read this.

Sometimes, honesty is the best policy. This is one of those times. Yes, it's not what the OP is going to want to hear. Yes, it's blunt. But it needs to be said.

OP, you did not meet the requirements of passing the class. You aren't the first person to do so, and you won't be the last. You don't really seem to have grounds to appeal, unless there are extenuating circumstances you didn't mention. Figure out why you didn't pass, and rectify that situation so that when you do retake the class, you pass it. If it's study habits, look at how you can improve them. If it's not speaking up and asking for an explanation for something you just didn't understand, take advantage of office hours.
