externship/internship -how to find?

Hi everyone,

I currently am a junior who finished my med surg clinical. I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to best ways to find and apply for externships?

Specifically in san diego, los angeles, or California in general for this upcoming semester.

Any ways to improve the chances of getting an externship before applying?

    Go online and search for programs in your desired area. If a general search doesn't yield anything, try searching the specific hospital websites.

    Note that some internships/externships may only be available in the summer -- short term programs that are geared to students like you looking for "summer jobs" that combine learning with clinical practice.

    Some hospitals have jobs that are suitable for students that are year-round jobs and they might be called internships or externships -- but then they might have another title, such as CNA, patient care tech, nursing care partner, etc. You'll just have to see what each hospital in your region offers and choose what will work best for you.
