I won't graduate until May 2010, but I am wanting to get into ICU and my GPA is very high. Is UT Southwestern a good place to work? I can get my foot in the door there by working as a tech and then have a better chance of getting an ICU internship when I graduate (I am told). Does anyone know any other or better options or hospitals?

I'm from the Dallas area, although I'm going to nursing school in Alabama. I know Parkland does a ICU residency program. I talked to a nurse who went through it and she had a really good/positive experience in it. She said she got to rotate through all the ICUs. However, she said it is very competitive to get in. Hope this helps! Don't know much about UT-Southwestern except that's a med school.

Both are very good programs. I have a friend that doing CVICU at ut southwestern and her internship program sounds just like parkland's. U will get to see a lot of things and will be able to get a job anywhere. She externed the summer before on the unit and was hired before the summer was over. So the last semester of nuring school she already had a job. So I would work as a extern.
