Evidence-Based Project

Hi All! I was wondering if I could get some opinions. As part of my nurse residency program which my hospital runs for all new grads (I'm almost at the end of my first year!), we have to complete an evidence-based project. We can pick any topic, preferably something that we feel like needs improvement on the floor or something we'd like to educate others about. My group has chosen to identify those patients who have an increased risk for bleeding in the hospital. We listed those who are anticoagulated, with a history of bleeds, and those that have particular conditions which lower platelets, etc. In a general power point presentation, we are going to list these problems, suggest interventions, and add facts that I found from different sources (they said at least two). We also included elderly/disoriented patients who are at risk for falls at the end since they require other interventions, as well.

Please let me know what you think and if you would add anything.

Hi.

This is a subject that I'm very interested in doing myself...so my suggestion is more of a question. Shouldn't your project prove some evidence-based care. Something like, "of all the patients who were at risk for bleeding, how many were put on bleeding precautions and how many of those people actually bled" You know, something that researches care and thus makes it evidence - based. What do you think?

Hey, yes.. that does make a lot of sense.

I have been doing research also on bleeding risk models that hospitals use. While some are successful and some are not, they help doctors determine whether a patient is eligible for anticoagulation and help aid management decisions. I wonder if I can incorporate that in.

This is due Thursday. I'm wondering now if I should change my approach and explore more about the approach that you mentioned.. which may have been more of what was expected. :uhoh21:

Hmm.. looking around nursing journals, too.. I'm not sure where I can find data of that sort. Any suggestions?
